First Day of Fall

It doesn't happen very often, but occasionally Mother Nature and the calendar will work together and create the perfect day.  It happened this past Sunday when we got our first cold front of the year on the first day of fall.  Usually it's 100 degrees on the first day of fall and if you didn't look at a calendar, you would never even know it was fall.  But this year, we had lows in the high 50s and highs in the low 80s.  It was the perfect open all your windows and go outside kind of a day...so that's exactly what we did!

Our mornings start pretty early around here, so right after breakfast we got dressed and headed to the Play For All park in Round Rock.  It's Presley and Beckett's favorite park.  We got there a little after 8am and for about the first 30 minutes, we were the only ones there.

The park wore the kids out!  They both came home and crashed for an early morning nap.
With the house quiet, windows open, and football on...Blaine and I were in heaven!

When they both finally woke up, it was time to make some pumpkin bread.

I've been working on a recipe for a couple of years now for the perfect pumpkin bread and I think I've finally mastered it.  Only Pres and Becks know the super secret recipe so they got to help make it with me.

Presley loves to add the ingredients to the mixer.  In go a couple of eggs!

A little taste of the spices

A lesson on sifting the dry ingredients

A little quality control tasting before it goes into the oven.

45 minutes later we had some yummy pumpkin bread to enjoy on this beautiful day!

And of course, no first day of fall would be complete without a trip to the store to pick out a pumpkin.

Happy fall, everybody!
