Daddy's Birthday Cake

Since Blaine's birthday always falls right in the middle of Lent, we never get to celebrate with cake.  We give up sweets every year and every year we are shocked to discover that we won't be able to get a cake.  However this year was different.  As soon as we told Presley that it was Daddy's birthday, her first words were "Yea! We get cake!".

So I took Pres up to HEB and let her pick out any cake she wanted for Daddy's birthday.  Of course she picked the best one they had and I immediately regretted my choice of lenten sacrifice. It was chocolate cake with cookies and cream frosting and a giant Oreo on top!

Enjoy this pics below of Beckett and Presley devouring Daddy's cake.

What a mess!
But it was so worth all the clean up just to see how much fun they both had.
Happy Birthday, Daddy!!!

St. Patty's Day Graphing

Presley has been obsessed with math lately.  Our dinner conversations have evolved from talking about our day to Presley asking us to give her addition and subtraction problems to solve.  When Blaine and I try to act surprised and give the obligatory "Oh my goodness, how on Earth did you know that?", we always get the same response from Pres : "Mom (insert slight eye roll here), I know how to count on my fingers!".

I thought it was time to step it up a bit, so for St. Patrick's Day we introduced graphs!

We started with a small bowl of Lucky Charms.  I asked Presley guess which marshmallow she though had the most in the bowl.  It was at his point I figured we would throw in a bit of the scientific method as well, so we also learned the word hypothesis.

After she guessed that the purple horseshoes had the most, we decided to take each marshmallow out and put it where it belonged on the graph.

Looks like pink hearts had the most!

She loved the graph and asked if she could take it to school for show and tell that week.  When I asked her what would probably happen when we put it in her bag for school she said "Oh no, all the marshmallows will fall off!".  Looks like we needed to make another graph to represent the first.  I told her to color in the squares to go with the first graph we made.  That was all the direction she needed before she was off and coloring!

We ended up putting both graphs in a folder and she did take them for show and tell.
When I picked Presley up from school on that day, the teacher that helps her into the car said how much they loved her graphs.  Presley was so proud and smiling from ear to ear!
I might need to start brushing up on my algebra and geometry just to keep up with her!

Valentine's Day 2013

Presley, Beckett, and I started off the month of February by making this Valentine's Day sign for our mantel.  We used Presley's hand for the "O" and Beckett's feet for the "V".  I love the way it turned out and Presley had so much fun making it.  She loves anything that involves paint!

She's really been interested in addition lately, so we did a few Valentine math activities earlier in the month.

She's getting really good at addition and can do these activities all on her own.  I still have to stay close by, though, because she will eat all the candy hearts if nobody is looking!

On Valentine's Day morning, both kids woke up to their Valentine boxes full of some fun little treats and toys!

Becks even got super excited for his new Valentine's Day sippy cup!

Later that day, Presley asked if we could do one more Valentine math activity.
This kid loves math!!!

Happy Valentine's Day!
